Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor is today one of the top 3 most popular Cuban salsa orchestras worldwide, and is referred to by music critics as the most energetic, innovative and solid live ensemble from Cuba in the last decade!
The orchestra will be celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, bringing with it superstar Mayito Rivera (over 20 years as the lead vocalist in Los Van Van) on his Europe tour in November.
Band leader Maykel Blanco is the youngest musician to ever lead a Cuban band. He started his education as a percussionist from the age of 12, and formed his first band when he was 15.
As a 23-year-old in 2005, he established the 14-man orchestra Salsa Mayor, and after a short period of time with the orchestra received various awards, both national and international, for "Best Salsa Orchestra", "Best Music Event", "Best Live of the Year" etc.
Their major breakthrough was in 2010 with the album "Soy lo que te hala", after which the orchestra has toured Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America annually. The album "Que no me quiten la fé" released in 2016 created a new boom in salsa environments around the world, and when the orchestra first played in Norway in October 2017, the concert was sold out and several had to turn around without hearing this energy bomb from Cuba.
7th album, "Que tiene que te mueve", is being released tis year and we are very proud to present the 15-man orchestra in Belgrade on Friday, 8th November, at Belexpocentar as part of festival Havana en Belgrado, that is promoting Cuban music and dances for 9 years.
